The Winston-Salem Police Foundation is proud to announce the Inaugural ‘Code 2- Call for Backup’ Event will be held Thursday, May 23 at the newly opened Hotel Indigo in downtown Winston-Salem. This fun and festive event will celebrate the WSPD staff person and officers of the year. It is being held in conjunction with National Red Nose Day.
Who: Anyone that supports the Winston-Salem Police Foundation and Department and enjoys a fun evening out in a brand new swanky hotel and amazing restaurant!

The first Winston-Salem Police Department promotion ceremony of 2019 was met with lots of smiles and family members and friends applauding the many members of the WSPD who received official congratulations from Chief Catrina Thompson, as well as other participating command staff. The Winston-Salem Police Foundation is proud to support this momentous occasion by supplying all of the official plaques that each WSPD staff person receives as part of their promotion! Congratulations to all of the recent promotees and thank you for your service!
To better fulfill its mission of strengthening community partnerships through mentoring and community outreach programs, the Winston-Salem Police Foundation is expanding its Board of Directors in 2019. Community partnerships are essential to enhance relationships between residents and the police.
“I’m very proud of the significant achievements our small board has made in just three short years,” said Scott Sewell, President of the Winston-Salem Police Foundation. “We’re excited to be adding to our board some very talented individuals who will enhance our effectiveness and contributions to the foundation. It remains an honor to work with the dedicated members of the Winston-Salem Police Department under the leadership of Chief Catrina Thompson.”
The Foundation Board of Directors has increased from eight members in 2018 to 18 members for 2019. This expansion will allow the Foundation to bring more diversity, experience and differing insights to the board, enabling it to better serve its core mission.

The Winston-Salem Police Foundation’s mission is to provide funds for tools, training, technology and equipment that might go unfunded otherwise. The Foundation is a charitable non-profit, independent organization, designed to provide funding that can be allocated to help strengthen community and police partnerships such as mentoring programs, community outreach events and Police Athletic Leagues (PAL). In addition, it helps promote public and officer safety, along with the ability to recognize and honor the police workforce. The Foundation follows a public-private partnership model that has proven to be highly effective in prevention and reduction of crime and fostering stronger community relations in other cities.
The Foundation allows for tax-exempt gifts from individuals, businesses and philanthropic organizations, and is the only organization authorized to raise funds on behalf of the Winston-Salem Police Department. The Winston-Salem Police and Fire Departments Toy Drive is coming up December 5-7 at two local WalMart locations- Peters Creek Parkway and Hanes Mill Road. Citizens are encouraged to “pack the patrol car” and “fill the fire truck” with toys for local children during the holidays. You can stop by from 10:00am- 2:00pm each day.
The 2018 Dixie Classic Fair is here! Winston-Salem Police Foundation board members will be volunteering at the WSPD food booth this Friday evening (9/28/18)! If you’re at the Dixie Classic Fair, please stop for a good bite to eat and say hello!
Due to the impending hurricane, the Winston-Salem Dash, in conjunction with the Winston-Salem Police Foundation, are postponing their free Movie Night at BB&T Ballpark from Saturday, September 15, to Sunday, October 28.
Gates for the new date will open at 5:30 p.m., with the hit movie Coco beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Admission to this event is free to the public; however, donations of cash & blankets will be accepted as well as non-perishable food items. Cash & blanket donations will go towards the Winston-Salem Police Foundation, a non-profit, independent organization dedicated to enhancing the capacity of the Winston-Salem Police Department to be more effective in improving public safety.
Non-perishable food items will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. The Foundation focuses on community outreach, funding and raising resources to assist the Police Department in making Winston-Salem a safer place to live, work and enjoy life. “Despite the postponement of the initial date, we are very excited to still be holding this special event. It is our mission to bring members of the police department and community together to create conversations about how we can continue to improve public safety in Winston-Salem,” said Scott Sewell, president of the Winston-Salem Police Foundation. “BB&T Ballpark provides a perfect atmosphere for a fun-filled evening of learning and socializing.”
There will be free parking for all attendees, and concession stands throughout the facility will have food and beverages available for purchase. No outside food or beverage is permitted. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets to sit in the outfield to watch the movie. However, lawn chairs of any kind will not be permitted in the ballpark.
The Kids Zone will also be open for free on October 28, with several free carnival games featured on the concourse as well. Before the movie, representatives of the Winston-Salem Police Department will have their various vehicles on display, including police cars, motorcycles, bike patrol bicycles and rescue/hazardous device vehicles and the Operations Sweet Reads Bookmobile. Members of the K-9 unit will be in attendance as well.
“No amount of bad weather can stop us from holding this great event. These movie nights at the ballpark allow for positive interactions and conversations between the people who protect us every day and those whom they are protecting,” Dash president C.J. Johnson said. “We are excited to once again host this beautiful community event at BB&T Ballpark.”
Coco, which was released in 2017, follows a 12-year-old boy named Miguel, who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family among the living. Coco won the “Best Animated Feature” at the Academy Awards, and it was named the “Best Animated Film” at the Golden Globe Awards.
