June 19, 2024The Winston-Salem Police Foundation has expanded their annual local student scholarship program for 2024. Thanks to strong support by the community, they were able to provide seven students of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System (WS/FCS) as recipients of its’ fifth annual scholarship program. Students were selected through an application and objective review process and will receive an award of a one-time disbursement of $1,000.
Aaron Boyd
Aaron Boyd is the son of Felica and Aaron Boyd Sr., and the grandson of retired Winston-Salem Police Department Sgt. Jimmy Boyd. Aaron grew up in Winston-Salem and he is graduating from Robert B. Glenn High School with a 3.6 GPA. Aaron interest includes sports and in the fall he plans on attending Forsyth Technical Community College for two years to study sports medicine.
David Boyd Jr.
David is the son of David and Boyd. And the grandson of retired Sergeant Jimmy Boyd. David is graduating from Walkertown High School with a 4.25 GPA. During high school, David participated in track and field, basketball, football, and wrestling. David was also a Crosby Scholar and a member of the national honors society. In the fall, David will be attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with plans to major in Information Technology.
Avonna Dawkins
Avonna B. Greer- Dawkins is the daughter of Officer Curtis Dawkins and Jamila Kodja. She grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and she is a graduate of Early College of Forsyth. She received an Associates Degree in Science and High School Diploma from Forsyth Technical Community College, where she is graduating with honors of Summa Cum Laude with a 4.4 GPA.
Her interests include Cheerleading and Track/ Field at Parkland High School. She Cheered at Parkland High School for four years and received the Coaches Awards for the last 2 years. She has participated in many clubs such as Eco and Multicultural clubs. She has volunteered at Quality Education Academy as well as Cheer clinics at Parkland High School and Carter High School. She has been accepted and plans to pursue a career in Nursing at UNC Charlotte.
Brian Gomez
Brian Gomez is the son of Asst. Chief Manny and Meridith Gomez. Brian grew up in Clemmons NC, where he is a graduate of West Forsyth High School with a 4.3 GPA. In the fall he will be attending NC State University and entering the engineering program. Brian enjoys spending time with family and friends. He also enjoys training jiu jitsu with his dad and younger brother. He is excited about beginning NC State in the fall.
Jerrica Hooper
Jerrica is the daughter of Anna Reed-Hooper. She graduating from Robert B. Glenn High School with a 3.9 GPA. She has participated in many school activities during high school that includes Junior Marshall’s, Spanish Club & Varsity Women Choir. . In the fall, Jerrica will be attending UNC Pembroke where she plans on majoring in Social Work and later become a family lawyer after college.
Antwan Steele Jr.
Antwan is the son of Antwan and Leah Steele Sr. Antown grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and he is graduating from Ronald Reagan High School with a 3.6 GPA. In the fall, Antwan plans to attend UNC Charlotte where he will major in Communication, Statistics, and Sports Analyst.
Caroline Wagoner
Caroline Wagoner is the daughter of Corporal Kevin Wagoner (WSPD) and Sarah Wagoner. She recently graduated from Stokes Early College High School, Summa Cum Laude with a GPA of 4.3 and Forsyth Technical Community College with High Honors and a GPA of 3.6. Her special interests include history, biblical studies, apologetics, and community service. Caroline was president of her school’s Interact Club and Fellowship of Christian Students. This fall she will be attending Johnson University in Knoxville, Tennessee. Caroline will double major in Bible and Theology and Ministry Leadership with a focus in Preaching and Student Ministry.
